    Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engine’s filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance.

    Side-Access Chain Tensioner
The side-access chain tensioner makes it much more convenient for the user to adjust the saw chain with a bar wrench as opposed to the typical location of the guide bar adjustment screw.
  • Zoom
Toolless fuel and oil caps with retainers
Simply lift the lever and twist the caps to remove or tighten. There‘s no need to use a tool to tighten or loosen.

Important Information
WARNING! The occurrence called “kickback” can cause serious or fatal injury. Always read the instruction manual carefully before using your saw. STIHL uses a green and yellow color-coding system to help you select a powerhead, bar and chain combination that complies with the kickback requirements of ANSI Standard B175.1 (gasoline-powered saws) and §30 of UL 1662/ ANSI Standard B175.1 (electric chainsaws). Ask your STIHL dealer about safe operating procedures and the advantages of the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake, STIHL Quickstop® Plus (Q) additional chain braking feature, STIHL reduced kickback bars and STIHL low-kickback saw chains.

STIHL recommends the use of green reduced kickback bars and green low kickback chains on all STIHL chainsaws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by best saw i have I been cutting my own firewood for 18 years now cut about 10 cords a year and out of all the others saw's I have use. this is the best for what I do you will like the MS291 it gets the job done I have had mine 2 years now. good luck with your saw September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gets the job done quickly My wife gave me this saw for Christmas last year. My homestead is just under 20 acres and I use the saw to keep my trails open, camp fire wood and storm clean up. Most trees I deal with are "biggins" so I got the 20" bar. It runs like a bear! So far, so good. September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by nothing beets it I've been a home owner /woods man for many years source of heat all my life .I've either owned a new or used stihl after many years of use ,a new one in your hand makes you feel on top of the game these are the best saws out there . September 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw! Good power! I got this with an 18" bar for cutting firewood in the rocky mountains. I have plenty of power at 8000ft so as long as i dont bind the bar it cuts thru the lodge pole like a beast. The .325 chain cuts good and this coming from a guy that ran 3/8ths and a 044 on fire. I highly recomend the stihl sharpening kit. For the cost of two sharpenings at your local hardware it will pay for itself. More often than not if ind the hardware stores dont properly sharpen them and with the kit it actually cuts better than new! September 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by First NEW saw I've purchased used saws over the years (ms290 and an 041AV), this is my first BRAND NEW saw. Definitely impressed with the weight reduction since the older saws and love the fact that the chain tension adjustment is now on the side instead of in the front where it gets caked up with junk. All in all the 291 is a great all around purchase! September 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rule of Four I bought a brand new MS-291 about a month ago and already have 10 tanks of gas on it. Out of the box it did not want to hold and idle but that is easy to fix - raise the idle and richen up the low jet. After that, the 291 idled fine. Cranking a Stihl saw or any two cycle engine must always follow the Rule of Four - never pull a Stihl saw more than four times before rolling it up to a lesser choke position or you will flood it in a heartbeat. To crank the 291 I put it in the full choke position and pull it four times. It doesn't matter how short the pull actually is, either. A short pull is the same as a full pull, After four pulls, I roll it up to Warm Start and pull it four more times. Sometimes it will roll over (attempt to start) in the warm start position but after four pulls I roll it up to thye run position and pull it up to four pulls in that position. If it has not cranked at this point I put the saw down and grab a smoke for a few minutes. After my short break I pick up the 291 and put it in the full choke position and we start over. Usually after a couple of pulls it rolls over and I roll it up to Warm Start and she cranks right up. If it goes through the cranking sequence without cranking I will probably replace the spark plug and see if that works. I have never had to go that far, yet. September 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best saw I've ever owned! Just got this saw with a 20" bar a month ago and have already bucked up about 2 cords of firewood and it has flew through the wood like it was butter. Would highly recommend this saw! August 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Starts easily and goes through wood like butter. I had a lot of wood in the back yard to cut up, and some of the pieces were pretty large, and I knew that my little 14" electric wasn't going to cut it. (ah, good pun) I'm planning on moving to the country soon, so I'll be needing a good sized saw that can handle a lot of cutting, and after checking the reviews, this is the one. 95% of the time the weight of the saw itself just allows it to glide through the logs like nothing at all. I was cutting some logs up to 65" in diameter, and it never bogged or jammed. The anti-vibration feature on this thing is awesome, I never got the vibrating hands syndrome that I've had before with other saws after cutting for a while. I'm sure this thing will handle anything that my future country homestead can throw at me. August 24, 2016
