    Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engine’s filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance.

    Side-Access Chain Tensioner
The side-access chain tensioner makes it much more convenient for the user to adjust the saw chain with a bar wrench as opposed to the typical location of the guide bar adjustment screw.
  • Zoom
Toolless fuel and oil caps with retainers
Simply lift the lever and twist the caps to remove or tighten. There‘s no need to use a tool to tighten or loosen.

Important Information
WARNING! The occurrence called “kickback” can cause serious or fatal injury. Always read the instruction manual carefully before using your saw. STIHL uses a green and yellow color-coding system to help you select a powerhead, bar and chain combination that complies with the kickback requirements of ANSI Standard B175.1 (gasoline-powered saws) and §30 of UL 1662/ ANSI Standard B175.1 (electric chainsaws). Ask your STIHL dealer about safe operating procedures and the advantages of the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake, STIHL Quickstop® Plus (Q) additional chain braking feature, STIHL reduced kickback bars and STIHL low-kickback saw chains.

STIHL recommends the use of green reduced kickback bars and green low kickback chains on all STIHL chainsaws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by All the power you need This is an excellent saw and i haven't had a single problem with it. I'm a year into this saw and i keep waiting for some problem to come up, but none so far. I have used it to cut up tress from an ice storm, and large diameter trees for fire wood. I have felled several trees from my property without issue. Great saw with all the power you need. July 22, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by oiler problems This saw has no adjustable oiler, there are people all over the Internet talking about how dry the bar seems. I went through a chain and what seems to be a bar in the first 3 mins of opperation. The chain oil us simply not coming out.Huge problem. If the dealer doesn't take it back it'll never leave the shop again. Rated 4 out of 5 by My Stihl products I own 2 stihl chainsaws MS 290 and an MS 291.Both very dependable..I also own a Stihl back pack blower that as worked fine for 4 years now.. July 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My First Stihl and Definately Not My Last! The Stihl MS 291 is the first Stihl product that I have personally owned and have owned it for approximately 8 months now. It has been an awesome saw from day 1 and have not had a single problem with it. Starting this saw is a breeze; If you do as the instructions say, it starts absolutely every time. It would be nice if it had an adjustable oiler for the chain so I could adjust it between my 16" and 20" bar, but I guess that is what the MS 311 is for. It has never given me any problems supplying enough oil, I just like to over engineer and would like to see a little bit more coming out for the 20" bar. Overall, this saw has been great for cutting my winter firewood supply and would buy another one today if I had to. Great product. July 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw for the price I learned to run the 460 firefighting. Bought one and sold it because I was broke. Needed a new saw and this one fit my budget and was lighter. Broke it in then tuned it. You have to let it cut at its speed but its a good saw. 3 pulls it starts. 2 on choke to get it to pop, take the choke off, pull and it runs like greased owl droppings. But like any Stihl runs awesome. It doesn't have tons of power. But for its displacement, weight, and price exceeds expectations. June 14, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Glad I kept my old box store saw Bought this 2 weeks ago because my old department store saw is 11 yrs old with a ton of mileage on it and I figured it couldn't keep going forever. The guy at store started it and ran it for about a minute. Brought it home and tried starting it to no avail. Tried a half dozen times first day but it didn't even sputter. Read and re read manual. Watched internet videos on how to start it. Have tried it about 5 other days but nothing. There aren't a lot of options to start it, no primer bulb and just choke settings for starting. It still has same gas that dealer put in and is supposed to be easy start. I'll give up soon and go back to dealer to have it checked out. In mean time I'll just keep my old one going. This is my first stihl product and it's not a real good introduction. At three times price of old machine and the supposed superior brand I sure had expected more. At age 70 I've had a lot of experience but still I didn't want to have to be small engine mechanic anymore June 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw! I've needed an excuse to buy a chainsaw and a recent heavy wind gave me my wish, taking down part of an ancient oak tree across the driveway leading to my 13 acre piece. Because of good luck with other Stihl tools, I started there.I generally stay away from homeowner grade products because they just don't hold up but in this case, the professional saws were a bit overkill for how much I'd need a chainsaw - this is where the farm and ranch saws fit in perfectly. The MS 291 was the perfect combination of price, power and build quality. This tree was huge - the 20 inch bar was all but buried in the hard oak trunk for the better part of a day. It never skipped a beat or even really bogged down - it just kept on cutting no matter what I threw at it. It was a bit of a hard start when it was cold - but not terrible by any means.I've only had it for a week so I cant speak to long term reliability but if it's anything like my other Stihl equipment it should be fine. Rated 5 out of 5 by This chainsaw has the power to tackle any job. This MS291 saw is great on gas, light weight, and powerful. I had no problems working on the farm with it. May 30, 2015
